Advanced Motion & Controls Ltd. offers various models of pneumatically powered hydraulic instruments by HyperCyl, recommended for various assembly and forming applications. Among the options are EMA electric actuators, hydra-pneumatic cylinders, hyperpress machines, and standalone stations. These innovative products are based on customer assembly and forming applications conducted in 1994.
Among the solutions available are HyperCyl cylinders, air cylinders, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic toggles. Each category offers its own advantages.
Investment, energy, setup, and more
HyperCyl identifies seven categories in which to contrast these products, all of which are available from Advanced Motion & Controls:
- Investment. HyperCyl cylinders and air cylinders offer low-to-moderate investment, while the investment of hydraulic systems and pneumatic toggles is moderate-to-high.
- Operation. Cylinders offer a linear power curve that is user-adjustable within size range. Hydraulic systems have noisy linear power curves that can run hot without oil coolers, and pneumatic toggles have parabolic force curves with large, mechanical linkages that need adjustment.
- Force curve. Each of these four products offers different approaches and retraction in their output force.
- Energy. HyperCyl units offer very low output force per pound, while air cylinders and pneumatic toggles have high air consumption per pound of output force. Hydraulic systems have electrical costs for system pumps, motors, coolers, and pre-heat elements.
- Maintenance. HyperCyl cylinders have minimal maintenance, with only three moving parts, and air cylinders have low maintenance too. Pneumatic toggles have moderate-to-high maintenance, and hydraulic systems have very high maintenance with multiple related parts.
- Setup and use. Air cylinders and hydraulic systems require high impact forces, the latter with no special circuit. HyperCyl units use power stroke anywhere within stroke of cylinder, while pneumatic toggles has a parabolic force curve that requires adjustment adjustment of press, tooling, or part stack-up to attain appropriate force.
- Disadvantages. Some HyperCyl units are longer than conventional air or hydraulic cylinders. Air cylinders have high air consumption; hydraulic systems use up high energy, may leak oil and require high maintenance; pneumatic toggles have a parabolic force curve and mechanical linkages.
